Description The Master of Arts (M.A. Social Work) programme is a research based programme designed for holders of a bachelor's degree in social work, social practitioners and individuals in the helping profession who wish to advance their knowledge in social work theories and practice. Through this program, students will undertake a fully supervised research project. This approach enables the students to gain experience in exploring problems, analysing ideas and theories, evaluating practice, synthesizing and linking knowledge with practice, utilizing research methods and producing new ideas in various areas of social work practice. The integrated skills acquired through this learning process will enhance the students' capabilities in both theories and practice, and assist them in developing a professional career in social work and social welfare services.

Entry Requirements Applicants for the Master of Arts Programme
must possess:
a) University Requirement
1. A Bachelor’s degree with Honours from
Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other
institution of higher learning recognized
by the University Senate with a CGPA of
at least 2.75; or
2. A Bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institution of
higher learning recognized by the University Senate with a CGPA of less than
2.75 and with working experience in a
related field; or
3. A Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Pure
Science and Technology or any other
Professional field from Universiti Utara
Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the University
Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.50 ; OR
4. A Bachelor’s degree in Pure Science and
Technology or any other Professional
field from Universiti Utara Malaysia or
any other institution of higher learning
recognized by the University Senate with
a CGPA of less than 2.50 and working experience in a related field; or
5. Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the University Senate;
b) Additional Admission Requirement
1. Application for Master of Social Work
programme must pass an interview and/
or a psychology test.
English Requirement English Language Requirement
International applicants should meet any one
of the following English Language requirements.
1. Obtain a minimum score in the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
• 550 in the TOEFL Paper Based Test; or
• 80 in the TOEFL Internet Based Test; or
2. Obtain a minimum score of 6.0 in the
International English Language Testing
System (IELTS); or
3. Possess a degree from any countries with
English Language Education System;

Caicos Islands, U.S Virgin Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, USA, Zambia, dan
Zimbabwe); or
4. Possess a degree from any Public University in Malaysia with English as a language of instruction; or
5. Possess a degree from any Private University or College University in Malaysia
that are listed in Malaysian Qualifications
Register (MQR).

International applicants should meet any one
of the following English Language requirements before they are accepted for admission
into the programmes.
1. Obtain a minimum score in the Test of
